I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old but I really started to like it when I turned 6. It all started with a development program when I turned 6. I began to learn the basic soccer skills like pull backs, scissors, step overs and fakes. It made me feel good when I was able to master these drills.
I met so many other players that I now think of as my soccer sisters. Together, over the past two years, our team has been to watch the Womens Canadian National Team play England and even got to meet and talk to some of the players like Ashley Lawrence, Lauren Sesselmann and Adriana Leon. It was so much fun to cheer for them. They ended up winning too.
Our team gets together for potlucks, BBQ’s, pool parties, picnics, movies, bowling and so many other fun things. As much as I love soccer, it is also fun to get together off the field and get to know my friends more.
I play defence and love it because I get to be aggressive and I can support the plays. I also like learning from my teammates and getting to help others become their very best. I got the chance to train with my soccer idol Kadeisha Buchanan. She plays defence as well. She taught me that you have to stay low and you should use your technical skills to win the ball and not always rely on speed.
Every season I get to play is memorable and is another chance to practice all that I have learned so far. Now that I am almost 10, I can see how all my hard work, training and soccer drills have helped me be a better player but I know that there is still a lot more for me to learn.
My soccer goal is to play on the National team for Canada one day. I hope that I can achieve that goal. Playing soccer makes me happy and I can’t wait to keep getting better.
